The idea of the first energy race was born in 1939 at Shell’s research laboratory in the United States, following a friendly bet between scientists, on fuel economy. The goal was to find out who could travel the greatest distance with one gallon of fuel.

The challenge was revived by Shell in 1976 in England, and in 1985 in France, with ultra-light vehicles classified in two categories: prototypes like Microjoule, or Urban Concept like Cityjoule. This challenge, which has since been exported to 4 continents, continues to attract more and more competitors, partners, media and visitors.

A CHALLENGE FOR DEVELOPING THE USE OF GREEN ENERGIES IN MOBILITY

France was the leading country in the organization of races with lower fuel consumption. For the first time in 35 years, regardless of the health crisis, no such competition was held in France in 2020.

It is in this context that the first edition of the Challenge EcoGreen Gas was held in 2022.

An event that brought together French, Dutch and Italian teams around a competition that promotes low-carbon mobility.

The Challenge EcoGreen Gas challenged French and European students to design, build and drive vehicles capable of travelling a distance of 20 km at an average speed of 25 km/h using a minimum amount of energy.

In 2023, the competition opened to electric vehicles and became the CHALLENGE ECOGREEN ENERGY.
